My topiary shrubs are thinning on the side closest to the house. What can I do to pep them up?

Unfortunately, that type of thinning is usually caused by lack of sunlight on that side of the plant, and there isn't much you can do about it. Occasionally there can be a problem caused by lack of air circulation or reflected heat or a pest build-up, but usually the cause is lack of light.
