The Q&A Archives: Thinning Topiary

Question: My topiary shrubs are thinning on the side closest to the house. What can I do to pep them up?

Answer: Unfortunately, that type of thinning is usually caused by lack of sunlight on that side of the plant, and there isn't much you can do about it. Occasionally there can be a problem caused by lack of air circulation or reflected heat or a pest build-up, but usually the cause is lack of light.
