| Generally, it is advised to sow seeds more closely than the growing plants' ultimate spacing to allow for seeds that won't germinate. Germination is almost never 100 percent. Beet seeds can be sown about one every inch. If you are making single holes rather than a row, put one seed in each hole. When seedlings come up, thin out the less vigorous ones so that you have 2 or 3 inches apart. Some gardeners prefer to let the seedlings grow until the beets are starting to be too close together, and then thin them, making a meal of beet greens or small tender beets. |
