| I have a hanging plant that I was told was a "moss rose." It has small orange flowers. the leaves are yellowing and falling off. My questions: how much water does it require? how much sun does it require? thanks! |
| Moss rose and rose moss are common names for Portulaca grandiflora. It grows to 6" high and is branching, producing trailing reddish stems set with narrow, cylindrical, pointed leaves. The lustrous-petaled flowers are shaped like tiny roses, which is where the plant gets its common name. Portulaca prefers full sun and moderate water. The plants actually thrive in high temperatures and intense heat. Containerized plants may need watering every day, so be sure to check your plant every morning during the hottest part of the summer, and water as required. If leaves are yellowing, your plant may not be getting the heat and sunshine it requires. Try relocating to a sunnier spot and watering often enough to keep the soil moist, but not soggy wet. |
