| I have a wooded lot and have cleared out an area for a building 30 x 45 the clearing is approx 60 x 60. I would like to create a screen of evergreens to hide this builing on the NE side It will get partial sun for approx. an hour, but will get light other times. I am thinking of the Canadian Hemlock ( Emerald Fountain). Is this a good choice, and if not, what would you suggest. I need about a 10' max heigth. Also how many would need for a solid screen of 45' Thanks for your help David |
| Hemlocks are not recommended due to the current problems with hemlock wooly adelgid in Pennsylvania. Instead, you might consider yews or a vigorous rhododendron such as the catawba group. Both of these plants grow quite wide with age, so allow ample space for them to develop into healthy plants. Actual spacing would depend on the specific variety you select and your nursery should be able to provide mature size information. |
