I read somewhere that lemon grass (cymbopogon citratus) is a source of citronella and pots of same planted near a deck or patio will control some insects. Is this true?

Lemon grass has a lemon scent when bruised. In my experience, growing it in a pot on the patio does not seem to repel mosquitoes or other pests.
