Tropical hibiscus should be taken indoors in a cold winter gardening zone such as yours. Keep the plant in a pot with good drainage and enjoy it outdoors during the spring and summer months. When nighttime temperatures begin to drop to about 55F, bring the plant indoors at night. Gradually keep it indoors for longer and longer periods of time so it can adjust to lower light levels and warm household temperatures, eventually keeping it indoors 24 hours a day. Reverse the process in late spring when nighttime temperatures remain above 55F.
