The Q&A Archives: Chia Pet Seeds

Question: I am trying to find Chia Pet replacement seeds. The type of seed is "Salvia Columbariae." Can you recommend another type of seed?

Answer: The common name for Salvia columbariae is actually Chia! Salvia is a member of the sage family. Chia is an ornamental sage with the potential to grow four feet high with 1" to 4" leaves! It never gets quite that large on a Chia Pet because there's no room for the roots to grow. Here are a couple of sources for seed:

Wild Seed, Inc.
