| I have some Shasta daisies and purple coneflowers that were given to me from a friend. I've had them growing for several years now but have never cut flowers from the plant for fear of harming the plant. What is the best way to cut flowers so I can enjoy the flowers indoors? |
| Shasta daisies and coneflowers can be cut anywhere along the stem but it's best to cut the stem back to a set of leaves. The portion of stem above this node will die back anyway, so you might as well cut it back now. Cutting flowers can actually stimulate a plant to keep on flowering, so feel free to cut as many as you like. (You might want to leave some of the flowers toward the end of the season so they can produce seed and self-sow.) |
