Edelweiss is Leontopodium alpinum, a short-lived perennial from the mountains of Europe. It's happiest in a rock garding situation, requireing full sunshine, and very fast draining soil. The plant grows 6"-12" high and about 1' wide, with woolly white stems, leaves and bracts. Small white flower heads are crowded at the stem tips and a collar of slender leaves radiates out from below each flower head like the arms of a starfish. Plants bloom in early summer.
