I recently saw someone on KDKA TV who used something that had thorns in it as a powder and you sprinkle it on the hosta or whatever. They have literally destroyed my plants, big holes, just chewed up. Please advise, as someone also told me to get a cantalope empty it and fill it with beer! Help me, please more than that help my plants.

You may have seen a recommendation to use diatomaceous earth (a powder from the garden center) sprinkled on the soil surface aroudn your plants. This material has sharp edges that would work somewhat like thorns to kill the slug.

Slugs are also attracted to stale beer and so it is sometimes used to bait traps for slugs -- as are overturned citrus rinds and many other "home recipes". You can also hand pick them at night and drop them into soapy water. In my experience, the diatomaceous earth is more effective and a lot faster.
