I would like to plant pumpkins in large pots instead of in a garden. Is this possible? How big a pot would I have to use? Do pumpkins have a large root system? Thank you, Fred Weber |
This would be difficult, but might be possible in a large pot such as a half barrel. Look for a variety that is called "compact" or similar to indicate a smaller vine becuase pumpkin vines are normally very long. You could also grow it on a trellis to help save on space. The little baby pumpkins might be good candidates for this since the pumpkins are not as heavy. You will need to water and fertilize them regularly and they will need full sun all day for best results. |
