I recently purchased a home on a wooded lot in Calvert County, MD. Although I have a variety of trees all over my lot, I'm overcome by holly. It seems as though every one I remove to make room for others, they come back. How do I rid my yard of this perennial pest?

You may find that they are growing up from seed that has been spread by birds, and if this is the case then vigilance will be required in your efforts to eradicate the holly. You may also find that your efforts at pulling the plant out or cutting it down are not lethal and thus the plant is regenerating from the roots possibly in multiple shoots. To control it you may need to use an herbicide containing glyphosate, be sure to read and follow all of the instructions for best results.
