Mulch For Asparagus - Knowledgebase Question

I've planted asparagus roots (now in their 2nd year)and want to control the weeds in the bed. I've had pine straw down as a mulch to control weeeds, but wonder if it is still good to use a a mulch in the asparagus bed. Thanks!

Yes, you can use it. I'd recommend a layer of compost first, then the pine straw on top. Asparagus benefits from a rich soil and as the compost breaks down it will add nutrients to the soil. And the extra layer will help control the weeds. Good luck!
