hello, i would like some help in selecting a low growing groundcover that is for a steep hillside by our driveway. I would like a low growing, drought tolerant, soil erosion control plant that is possibly a native to san diego or mexico. we would like to have foliage all year round. the temperature range here is from 32 to 110 degrees. i do not mind if it is evasive or forms a thick mat. thank you for your help c. skipper |
Some groundcovers meeting your criteria include Antigonon leptopus (coral vine), Baccharis sarothroides (desert broom) Calylophus hartwegii (sundrops), Dalea greggii (trailing indigo bush), Mascagnia macroptera (yellow orchid vine), Merremia aurea (yellow morning glory), and Zinnia grandiflora. All a native to the southwest. For pictures and descriptions of these plants, consult Sunset Western Garden Book (available in most book stores and libraries). |
