Zone 6 (PA). I like to redesign my landscape this fall. Including the removal, transplanting and planting of new shurbs. Early this spring I purchase a balled Magnolia (Royal Star). I feel the fall is the best time to plant. From what I have read... it should be planted during the growing season. Would it be ok... to plant this Magnolia in the fall. I understand the area should be wind protected and full sun. |
It is difficult to properly care for, feed and water and protect a root ball under home conditions for a long period of time. For this reason I would strongly suggest you plant it now as poor holding conditions can weaken the plant and contribute to poor performance in the garden. In addition to wind protection and full to partial sun, this plant needs a rich, moist yet well drained, and acidic soil. |
