Also, just bought 2 LANTANA PATRIOT FIREWAGON plants and would like any information that you could give me in re: growing them successfully, lighting needs, soil needs, fertilizing. Can I keep them from year to year? I REALLY LIKE them a lot! |
| There are several plants known by that name. The heirloom flower, an annual euphorbia, is a tall and lanky plant, branching slightly later in the summer as the bloom time approaches. In my experience, they do not need to be pruned. The sap causes a skin reaction in some people, so you might want to wear gloves when handling this plant. The leafy ground cover, a spreading variegated plant with lacy white blooms in early summer, can be pruned any time by mowing it off. The plant will regrow quickly. You could also simply trim away the spent blooming stems to tidy it up. The lantana will need full sun and a rich soil that drains well. It will grow best in warm temperatures. Some gardeners bring the plant in for the winter and grow it as a houseplant on a very bright and sunny windowsill or in a greenhouse. You could also save and root tip cuttings to grow over the winter if space is an issue. |
