The Q&A Archives: Lemon Basil

Question: I was visting friends in PA. and there was a very nice bush next to their house. I believe she said it was lemon Basil. When you crushed the leaves they smelled like lemon.
I believe she told me it came back every year and had white flowers on it. I would like to know if this is an annual or a perennial and where I can purchase this plant.

Answer: Lemon basil is a variety of basil. It is an annual, but it readily self-sows if left to flower and go to seed. Burpee's offers 'Sweet Dani' which is a lemon basil.
