| For the most part, fig trees are pest-free, so I suspect a cultural problem has caused the fruit to be inedible. Figs can get along with minimal water, but for best growth and fruit development the trees should be watered regularly during dry spring and summer months. If you didn't water deeply and regularly this past season, that might account for your crop failure. Another possiblility is that the fruit is overmature. Very ripe fruit will usually drop to the ground, but it's possible the fruit was retained way past maturity. Hope the above sheds some light on the possible causes of your disappointing fig crop! |
