To use the leaves as rushes for weaving, cut the leaves in the summer time when they are full size but still in good condition, air dry them thoroughly for storage, and then soak them in water until pliable when you want to weave with them. To use the flower heads in dried arrangements, they should be picked when they have reached full size but before they are mature. Hang upside down individually to dry. If picked too late, they will go to puffball stage quickly. You can also try spraying them with a light coat of preservative or hair spray or other clear sealer to try to keep them intact longer. |
