The first tree that comes to mind is Prunus subhirtella, the ornamental cherry. Flowering cherry trees produce blossoms in the early spring before they leaf out. The trees require full sunshine and quick draining soil. All flowering cherries make attractive shade trees with their arching branches and full canopies. Prunus X subhirtella 'Rosea' is my favorite, growing 20' high and 30' wide, and producing pink blossoms.
