| We have a beautiful Star Jasmine in a container which is about 6 foot. It did great all summer and now the frost has hit in New Jersey and would like to know specific directions as to the winter care. Do we take this plant in, plant it in the ground or ????? | Star jasmine or Jasminum nitidum is not at all cold tolerant and needs to be brought indoors for the winter. (Its preferred temperature range is from about 65 to 80 degrees.) Next spring it can be trimmed back and/or repotted if needed and gradually acclimated to being outside again. For the winter, provide it with at least four hours of direct sun daily and keep the soil evenly moist but not wet. Do not be disappointed if it stops blooming this winter, it should start up again under the better growing conditions outdoors next summer. |
