| We need privacy from our backyard neighbors. We have 3 redwoods in each corner of the yard but the plants in between them are too short, and lose their leaves in the winter. I would like to have something that is about 15 feet tall, not very wide (because the yard isn't very deep), evergreen, and will grow in adobe soil. The depth of the border is 5 feet between the fence and the grass. I considered planting more redwoods but the border is too narrow, and we'd lose space in the yard. Do you have any suggestions? |
| One of the most commonly used evergreens for tall, narrow spaces is Thuja (also called arborvitae). Consider Thuja occidentalis 'Emerald' which grows 10 to 15 feet tall and 3 to 4 feet wide, or 'Pyramidalis' which grows 25 feet tall and about 5 feet wide. Either can be planted 4' apart and allowed to fill in the bare space you describe. Good luck with your landscape. |
