We have a small yard. One corner stays damp. I would like to know what periennals or small shrubs, especially ones that bloom, do you recommend that we plant in this space? |
Choose plants that naturally grow in swamps, bogs and marshes as they will be adapted to having wet feet. You also need to match the sun exposure. You didn't mention if it is a sunny, shady or partially shady site. Some plants that will do well in both sunny and partially shady sites include many iris, including Iris laevigata, Louisiana iris, Iris pseudacorus (yellow flag), Siberian iris, Iris virginica (southern blue flag) and Iris versicolor (blue flag), as well as Trollius (globeflower), common calla (Zantedeschia aethiopica), Lobelia cardinalis, black snakeroot (Cimicifuga racemosa), swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata), goat's beard (Aruncus dioicus), horsetail and sedges. You will probably have to experiment with a variety of plants to find what will work in your particular location. Good luck! |
