have you ever heard of an hawaiian rose...it heavy waxy purplish green leaves, pink , fragrant, cluster flowers..can be vine or shrub...it is not a hibicus..

I have found a cordyline called Hawaiian Rose (this form is also known as Rainbow Juno), perhaps that is the plant you are thinking of? There is a photo of the Dwarf Hawaiian Rose at the following url
