What type of narrow evergreens could be used for screening along a fence? I would like to form a narrow hedge like appearance and need the plant to reach a height of at least 20-25 feet. The area receives afternoon sun and there is a lot of clay in the soil. A Podocarpus Yew has been recommended; any other recommendations?

Yew might be a consideration, but it's rather slow in reaching its mature height. Perhaps a better selection is Thuja (arborvitae). These plants are columnar in growth habit and are popular plants for tall, narrow hedges. They don't require regular pruning and will thrive in well-drained soil in afternoon sunshine.
