| Holly (Ilex) is one of those ornamentals that is dioecious; there are separate male and female plants. In order to produce berries on the female plant, a male holly must be growing nearby. Watch your plant this spring for signs of flowering. A female will have solitary blooms. Flowers on a male plant will grow in clusters. After identifying whether you have a male or female plant, you can purchase a new holly of the correct gender. |
