We recently moved from the Chicago suburbs and purchased a new home in Santa Rosa, CA. Our back yard has a lot of semi-shaded areas under pine trees. We really enjoyed the Astilbes in our perennial garden in Chicago. Many of the garden catalogs rate Astilbes for Zones 4-8. How do you think Astilbes will perform in Santa Rosa which is Zone 9?

Astilbes will thrive in your California garden. Provide full to partial shade and moist, rich soil. Plan to divide the clumps every 4 or 5 years. Enjoy!
