| While we were living in Modesto, CA 95355, we bought a shrub at Scenic Nursery. We seem to remember it was a Monrovia plant. It developed into a wonderful shrub with long (up to 3ft), very thin "branches" that would eventually be long enough to gracefully droop down to the ground with tiny white flowers on them. It dropped all these little flowers in fall. It was about 2 ft tall. We thought the plant's name had "butterfly" in it, but it is not Buddleia. We've since moved to Fresno, and cannot find it and no on recognizes our description. I'm wondering if it could be a white Gaura? Any other ideas? Thanks very much |
| Gaura, perhaps. But it also may have been Potentilla, Deutsia, Ligustrum, Philadelphus or Abelia. Each fits your description. There are a number of books available to help you positively identify the shrub of your dreams. Visit your local library and start with Taylor's Guide to Shrubs (ISBN 0-395-43093-3) or Taylor's Guide to Perennials (ISBN 0-395-40448-7). Both books have color plates and complete descriptions of the most commonly grown plants. Best wishes with your search! |
