My two year old Red Hot Poker plant does not bloom--very healthy plant but no blooms. I use a balanced fertilizer. Is there anything I can do to ensure blooms. THank you.

The most common reason for lack of bloom would be too little sunlight; this plant prefers full sun all day long. They also do best in a rich, moist soil so you might try some compost in addition to the fertilizer, deep watering in dry weather, and use several inches of organic mulch over the root zone to help keep the soil more evenly moist. Also make sure the plant is not crowded, and take care to allow the foliage plenty of room to grow naturally so it can build the plant's strength as fast as possible. With luck, it will bloom for you this year.
