The hardy shrub Rose of Sharon (Hybiscus syriacus) is not too fussy about soil. The soil should be of average fertility or better, the plant is pH adaptable and it is drought tolerant once it has become established. It does however grow best in full sun all day long and the location should be well drained, meaning not soggy or wet.
