| I planted a Lady Baltimore hibiscus last summer and it did very well. It is now early spring and all I have is the woody stalks. Am I supossed to cut it back to the ground? Will new stalks grow? |
| The perennial hibiscus dies back to the ground every winter, leaving dead stems or stalks. These can be trimmed away in late fall or spring as you prefer. The new growth starts very late in the spring but grows very fast. You might want to mark the plant's location when you remove the stalks so you know where the plant is while you are waiting for it to start growing again. Be very patient, and remember it will make up for lost time. |
