I LIVE IN WV AND AM LOOKING FOR A HEDGE THAT GROWS FAST. I WOULD RATHER IT BE AN EVERGREEN OR SEMI-EVERGREEN. I WOULD LIKE TO FORM A SOLIDE WALL FOR PRIVACY. I'VE HEARD ALOT ABOUT PRIVETS, BUT I'M NOT SURE WITCH KIND. I WANT IT TO BE REALLY FULL FROM TOP TO BOTTOM.

Privet is probably the fastest growing traditional hedge plant. It is semi evergreen, meaning it holds its leaves late in the fall and leafs out early in the spring. It will form a dense hedge if it is pruned correctly. Early training consists of trimming it off repeatedly the first season after planting, thus causing it to branch and grow dense close to the ground. Then, as it grows taller, it should be cut narrower at the top and wider at the base, on an angle, so that light can reach the bottom of the hedge. This will allow it to stay leafy to the bottom.
