| According to Michael Dirr's Manual of Woody Landscape Plants, horse chestnut or Aesculum hippocastanum grows to between 50 and 75 feet tall and spreads between 40 and 70 feet wide. At that large size it is usually recommended for large public areas rather than the home landscape. It prefers full sun or light shade with a moist yet well drained soil and will not thrive in a dry location. It is pH adaptable.
