| I bought a torch begonia because I thought it was pretty and thought I could learn how to take care of it by searching the internet. Sites tell me how to take care of begonias depending on what kind of root system it has, whether tuberous, fibrous, or a bedding plant. That's the one thing I haven't been able to find out. | The angelwing begonia is a fibrous rooted plant, however it is a tropical plant most commonly grown as a lovely houseplant. It is sometimes summered outdoors in its container, kept for example, on a bright but shaded porch. Outdoors they do best in a bright location but out of direct sun. You could also use it in the ground, however it would not tolerate cool weather at all. These are fairly easy houseplants because they are happy in typical household temperatures and average indoor humidity. They like bright locations but will also tolerate moderate light. When you water, water deeply and then let the soil begin to dry before watering again. Use an all purpose water soluble fertilizer for houseplants according to the label instructions during the growing season. You can also propagate it easily by tip cuttings. Enjoy your angelwing begonia! If you are happy with it, look for more varieties, the different types of angelwings are fun to "collect". |
