| I purchased a weeping blue atlas cedar two weeks ago. The nursery delicered the specimen and it was planted into the landscape. After one week it showed signs of the needles ywllowing and this week the needles are dropping off. Is there any additional care that can be taken to prevent this. Will the plant recover. The plant has been getting sufficient watering. |
| There are several possible explanations for the needle drop. I'll mention a few in no particular order. One is that you are overwatering it. You only need to water enough to keep the soil evenly moist, not sopping wet. You would need to dig your finger into the soil and check and see if and when you need to water. Another possibility is that the plant is in transplant shock, especially due to the incredible unseasonable heat we have had this week. A few needles dropping could also be normal, since evergreens do lose a few every year. Unfortunately, it is difficult to determine what is happening long distance. I would strongly suggest you contact the nursery and consult with them about it -- maybe an onsite inspection, especially if the plant is under warranty. |
