The Q&A Archives: Pruning Of Clematis

Question: When and how much do you prune Clematis lanuginosa 'Candida'?

Answer: Joseph,

That type of clematis flowers on old and new wood. Prune only to remove dead or weak growth in early spring. Immediately after the first flush of blooms fades away in mid spring, cut back the blooming sections to promote regrowth and another flush of blooms later in the summer.
