| Schizanthus is the botanical name for the plant called "Poor Man's Orchid". I've grown it many summers and love the flowers. Its only drawback is its tendency to wilt and die back during hot weather. In your climate, you might have luck starting the seeds now and growing the plants throughout the winter and spring until the heat of summer. Good light will keep the plants bushy. Cool night temperatures are especially important in prolonging the blooming. |
