| One week ago I purchased and planted a China Girl Holly plant. The main part of plant looked good and healthy - dark green /shiny leaves. However, I noticed some of the new growth looked as if it suffered from a frost we had a few days earlier. They are now starting to turn a pale brown and curl. Is it okay to prune off new foliage that appears ill/damaged? I would appreciate any advice you can give. |
| Yes, it is usually a good idea to prune off severe damage leaving a clean cut. Also make sure that the plant is adequately watered during the establishment phase as lack of water can cause dieback, too. The soil should be kept evenly moist but not sopping wet; dig down and check the soil in the rootball as well as the surrounding soil (which may stay damp longer than the potting mix) to see if and when you need to water. |
