| I live at the same elevation as Happy Frog Nursery, Grass Valley, @2,000 ft. I purchased Woolly Grevillea from there assuming that it was compatible with Zone 7. (I believe my actual location is a mix of Zones 7 and 8). However, in reading your plant catalog, it appears that it may be too tender for the cold of Zone 7. I had hoped to cover my sunny hill with the 15 plants I've already purchased and to add more as they become available as a massed groundcover. Although our winter temperature rarely dips below 20 degrees, if it did, could I expect these plants to recover? I don't mind some risk, but am I pushing it? Also, can more of these plants be ordered soon? Thx. |
| Grevillea is native to Australia and hardy to 20 degrees F. It grows rapidly, forming a dense mound 5' tall by 6' wide. The needle-like leaves are borne on arching stems. For best growth, plant in full sunshine, in well draining soil. It has low water needs once established. Fertilize in spring and fall with NPK plus iron and sulfur to avoid chlorosis. If your winter temperatures remain above 20F, the plants should be fine. Once the roots are established new growth will be produced if the tops are damaged by extremely cold weather. |
