how do i prune a one year old kilmarnock willow.do i prune off the side shoots to keep the shape.do you have any other tips? |
A grafted weeping pussy willow will need any new growth coming from below the graft removed as soon as it appears. This would include growth either along the trunk or as shoots from the root or below ground. As far as the top growth, severely crowded or crossing/rubbing branches could be judiciously thinned out. Any winterkill or damaged branches should be removed as soon as that happens. A young tree should not require extensive pruning however. The tree will naturally continue to grow up and outward with age. |
