ROGERS GARDENS TOLD ME THAT YOUR CLEMATIS WOULD NOT BE DECIDOUS IN THE WINTER IN SOCAL BECAUSE YOU CLIMATIZED THEM> I"M REPLACING A DECIDUOUS WISTERIA THAT I HATED BECAUSE IT TURNED INTO A BIG STICK ALL WINTER> I BOUGHT THE COMETESSE de BOUCHAD VARIETY. i LIVE ABOUT 20 MILES INLAND IN THE CITY OF ORANGE IN.

There are two types of clematis - evergreen and deciduous. Clematis armandii is the evergreen kind; the others are deciduous. Comtesse De Bouchaud Clematis is a deciduous woody vine so you can expect the foliage to die back at the end of the growing season, even in your mild winter climate.
