| Callistemon, the bottlebrush, is a fast growing shrub, 10'-15' tall and wide at maturity. Very little routine pruning is required, but bottlebrush can be sheared into a hedge shape if desired. The flowers are highly attractive to hummingbirds. Once the flowers fade, attractive woody capsules develop. It isn't necessary to cut away spent flowers, but you may if you wish. Bottlebrush flowers just once a year. You may fertilize your shrub in the spring with an all-purpose fertilizer. Water regularly during the first few growing seasons. Once established, your bottlebrush will be happy with regular water only during the hottest months of the year. |
