The Q&A Archives: Iris Transplant

Question: When should I separate my iris and replant?

Answer: Bearded iris are usually separated or divided when they have become overgrown and crowded and blooming has diminished as a result, usually after three to five years. The preferred time to do the job is in late summer, during August.

Siberian iris are long lived and do not usually require division and replanting and so can be left in place for many years.
