The Q&A Archives: Plantings Between Flagstone Rocks

Question: what kind of plantinsg can grow between flagstone rocks on a patio? We are now laying the stone and want to soften the look--joints are no less than 2".

Answer: In a hot summer climate such as yours, it may be difficult to plant successfully between the stones, especially if the patio is in full sun all day or all afternoon. You could experiement with and try some of the creeping sedums, various creeping thymes, or in partial shade, possibly Mazus reptans. Good luck with your project!
