The Q&A Archives: Growing Jatropha Patio Tree.

Question: Purchased Jatropha tree last year. Grew and flowered. Just starting to leaf out. Does it like sun or shade, type of soil, plant food. Thank you for all help.

Answer: Your Jatropha will grow in full sun to part afternoon shade. It's a spectacular specimen tree, quickly reaching 15', and producing vivid red flowers in clusters over the entire plant, year around. Provide rich, well-draining soil and fertilize once each spring with a balanced all purpose fertilizer such as a 10-20-20. Apply in amounts listed on the label (too much will burn the roots), and water in well after application.
