| Clivias are surely impressive plants and fairly easy to grow from seed. Plant the seed in sterile germinating mix as soon as it arrives from the seed company. Keep the seed tray at about 75 degrees F during germination, which takes a month or more. When the plants have their second set of true leaves, transplant them to slightly larger pots and grow them in light shade and cool temperatures (50-55 degree nights) for the remainder of the winter. When active growth starts in the spring, raise the night temperature to 65 degrees and water well, allowing the pot to dry slightly between waterings. The plants rest from October to January, so water only sparingly during this time and avoid fertilizing. You don't need to transplant Clivias very often becausethey bloom best if they are pot bound. |
