Mulberry is a very fast growing, dense shade producing tree. Catalpa is another choice. Flowering plums do grow fast, but because of their small leaves, won't produce as much shade as mulberry or catalpa. If you like the look of feathery leaves, Albizia (silk tree) produces fluffy pinchusion shaped pink flowers each summer. This tree has an umbrella shape and makes a wonderful shade tree. Hope this information helps you choose just the right shade tree for your landscape.
