| Armeria (thrift) is one of those drought-tolerant plants that do well in average to poor soil, with little water. You can plant yours in regular garden soil. The plants have a mounding habit and the clumps will slowly spread as the plants mature. When the centers begin to die out, dig and divide your thrift. You can mulch around the clumps with most any organic matter, from compost to shredded bark. I'd avoid rocks or gravel - they may prevent root development as the plants spread out. 'Bloodstone' produces rose-red flowers rather than the tradition pink. It's quite striking! |
