I planted a hibiscus-rosa-sinensis, some of the buds flowered, other buds are falling off before blooming, there seems to be a circle around the base of the bud on the stem. At that point the bud falls off as if it has been cut. I dusted the leaves and buds with Rose and Flower dust. Will this remedy the situation or is there another course of action. |
There are two fairly typical reasons for the buds to drop off of a tropical hibiscus plant. In spring, the most common is probably cold temperatures, meaning below 55 degrees -- as we often have at night. FOr this reason, many gardeners will keep them in a pot so they can be easily moved indoors overnight when cooler temperatures threaten at the start of the season. The other common reason is over or underwatering. The soil should be kept evenly moist but never sopping wet and never allowed to dry out completely. I hope this helps you trouble shoot. |
