| What are the the green round balls or seed pods that we have on our Hyacinths after they quit blooming? Are they seeds? They have 6 clusters on them and are up to 1 inch in diameter. They are on the flower stem itself. Should we remove them? We are planning on planting Zonal Geraniums next to them for the Summer. Is that OK?? |
| The green pods are seed pods. The seeds they contain may not be viable and most gardeners do not collect them. It's always a good idea to cut down the flowering stem on a bulb when the flowers fade. This allows the energy to be diverted from seed production into carbohydrate storage for next year's bloom. By all means, cut off the stems, but leave the foliage alone until it turns brown on its own, then cut it off at ground level. You can plant geraniums next to the hyacinths - they won't mind a bit. |
